Introduction

Requirements

1. Before completing requirements 2 through 9, have your health-care provider give you a physical examination, using the Scout medical examination form.

3. Outline a comprehensive 12-week physical fitness program using the results of your fitness tests. Be sure your program incorporates the endurance, intensity, and warm-up guidelines discussed in the Personal Fitness merit badge pamphlet.

4. Complete the physical fitness program you outlined in requirement 3. Keep a log of your fitness program activity (how long you exercised; how far you ran, swam, or biked; how many exercise repetitions you completed; your exercise heart rate; etc.). Repeat the aerobic fitness, muscular strength, and flexibility tests every four weeks and record your results. After the 12th week, repeat all of the required activities in each of the three test categories, record your results, and show improvement in each one. Discuss how you have shown improvement.

5. Outline a comprehensive 12-week diet and nutrition program. In your program, explain how to balance your meals and control your weight. Keep a log of your daily food intake for each of the 12 weeks, showing the nutritional value of what you ate. Discuss your results with your counselor.

6. Discuss your activity in terms of the components of total fitness, including endurance, strength, flexibility, and body composition.

7. Explain what it means to be mentally healthy.

8. Tell what you learned about yourself from doing the physical fitness tests, including what you can do to be more fit.

9. Produce a short report for your counselor on what you found to be the most useful or meaningful about the entire merit badge program.
